The following case studies extend the approaches illustrated in decision support systems to directly address multiple objectives in marine management and conservation. The development of these multi-sector approaches is a goal of E-BM.
The aim of these case studies is to illustrate new approaches to advance ecosystem-based management by combining tools and objectives that have traditionally supported single sector management. In these cases, the focus is more on advancing approaches than arriving at "answers". Advancing Cases The prior case studies such as the Carolinian Ecoregional Assessment (.pdf) illustrated in Decision Support, represent products (e.g., priority areas) that have been developed and reviewed extensively by scientists, managers and other stakeholders. The case studies presented in this section represent working examples that are being developed with partners to help to explicitly link objectives. These examples were chosen, because they represent sectors (fisheries, coastal hazards, and conservation) and geographies where there is substantial interest in advancing E-BM approaches. |
